WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Tech women’s soccer dominated its way to a 4-0 conference win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Sunday afternoon thanks in part to a hat trick from junior forward Marta Llopis.

STATS OF THE MATCH

  • Tech threatened with an early corner kick just over five minutes in, but the ball was knocked safely away by PBA’s defense to keep the game at 0-0.
  • In the 18th minute, the Panthers looked to get on the board after Marta Llopis ripped a shot from just outside the box that deflected just off a Sailfish defender and safely away from the goal.
  • The Panthers continued to dominate possession but were unable to find scoring opportunities for several minutes.
  • In the 40th minute, Lydia Carroll sent a long pass up to Llopis who made her way into the box and nailed her shot off the left post and into the back of the net to put Tech on top, 1-0.
  • With just over a minute remaining in the half. Sara Batchadji worked her way down into the offensive corner and sent a cross into Lauryn Wood, who attempted a shot, but it was just wide of the goal and the teams went into halftime with a score of 1-0.
  • Tech continued to dominate possession in the opening minutes of the second half.
  • In the 57th minute, Ximena Jauregui fielded a goal kick at midfield from PBA and dumped a pass off to Llopis, who found Wood wide open in the box and deposited her shot past the keeper to put the Panthers up 2-0.
  • In the 64th minute, a shot attempt from Lauryn Wood was blocked with a handball in the box from the Sailfish, awarding the Panthers a penalty. Llopis converted the penalty for her second goal of the match to extend Tech’s lead out to 3-0.
  • 10 minutes later, Daniela Tobon was fouled just outside the box to earn a free kick for the Panthers. Llopis took the opportunity to bend a shot into the back corner of the net for the hat trick and to put Tech up 4-0.
  • PBA mounted some offense late in the match and earned two corner kicks with just under 10 minutes left but were unable to find the back of the net on the attempts and the match ended with a final score of 4-0.

 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Tech moves to 18-3 all-time against PBA, including a 10-3 record on the road in West Palm Beach.
  • The Panthers have won the last six matches against the Sailfish.
  • Marta Llopis’ hat trick was the first of the season for the Panthers, and the first since Marem Ndiongue (’23) on Oct. 31, 2023, against Florida Southern.

 
UP NEXT: The Panthers will host Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rick Stottler Field in Melbourne, Fla.
