The Kentucky Wildcats arrived in Omaha as the rookies, having never been to a College World Series.  After a successful season and an unprecedented run through the Regional and Super Regional tournaments, the Cats were fully rested and excited for a deep run in the College World Series. With the typical fan support of Big Blue Nation, the Cats were optimistic for a positive result against the ACC foe in North Carolina State.

Coach Mingione showed great confidence in his starter Trey Pooser and he proved once again to be the stallworth he has shown this season by only allowing 1 run in the first 6 innnings. The Cats struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning when Nick Lopez singled home Emilien Pitre. The Wolfpack tied the game in the 3rd when Cozart drove in Garrett Pennington. The Cats answered with 2 runs in the 4th off of a homer by Nolan McCarthy which drove in Ryan Nicholson. The Wolfpack tied up the game in the 7th inning 3-3 behind their only homerun on the night. The Pack added pressure in the top of the 9th on a passed ball by Johnny Hummel.  The Cats responded in the bottom of the 9th when Ryan Nicholson homered to left field to force extra innings. Hummel was able to shutdown the Wolfpack in the top of the 10th to give the Cats an opportunity to end the game in a walkoff fashion as the previous 2 games of this World Series had ended. As though it was scripted Mitchell Daly homered with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th to send the Wildcat fanbase into a frenzy and send the Cats further along in the winners bracket.

The Cats will move on to play the winner of Texas A&M and Florida on Monday at 6pm CST. Big Blue Nation will need to extend their reservations past Monday due to the early success of the Wildcats.
