The University of Kentucky opened their portion of the 2024 Men’s SEC Basketball Tournament against the Texas A&M Aggies in quarterfinal action. The Cats were looking to continue their momentum as well as seeking revenge for an earlier season loss at A&M.
The first half did not quite go as hoped, with the Aggies shooting 50% from the 3-point line (8-16) while the Cats were hitting at 43% (6-14).   Another area that hurt the Cats were turnovers. Kentucky turned the ball over 8 times leading to 10 points for A&M. Meanwhile, the Aggies only turned the ball over 2 times, allowing the Cats only 2 points. At the half, Kentucky was led by Reed Sheppard with 14 points and Rob Dillingham had 11 points. A&M was led by Wade Taylor with 18 points and Tyrece Radford pitched in 12 points.
Second half was equally disappointing as the Cats could never put their bite into the Aggies. A&M was able to fend off each UK run and would build the lead back to the 10 point range. Defense could not stop the Texas A&M offense while never completely getting their offense untracked.
Kentucky was led in scoring by Dillingham, who finished with 27 points. Sheppard, who despite being held scoreless in the second half, followed with 14 points. A&M was led by Taylor with 32 points and Radford knocked in 23 points. A glaring stat remained the turnovers, as UK turned the ball over 14 times leading to 18 A&M points. The Aggies only turned the ball over 6 times, leading to 4 points for the Cats.

Final Score
Kentucky Wildcats…87
Texas A&M Aggies…97
