The nightcap of the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta featured #9 North Carolina against #14 Kentucky. Even though UNC leads the series 25-17, UK leads the series in games played in the CBS Sports Classic 3-1.
This game was expected to be a track meet and neither team disappointed as both sides had plenty to cheer about. UK never trailed in the first half and even had an 11 point lead at the 9:16 mark in the half. UNC combated that with a 8-0 run of their own to reel the Wildcats back within striking distance to 40-38 lead by UK at halftime.
UK was led in the first half in scoring by Aaron Bradshaw, Adou Thierry and D.J. Wagner with 7 points each. UNC was led in first half scoring by Cormac Ryan with 12 points and RJ Davis with 9 points.
Second half played out to be a similar script as the first half, both teams running up and down the floor. The Wildcats even ran out to a 12 point lead with 15:23 (55-43) in second half. Just as in the first half, the Tar Heels overcame the deficit to even take their only lead of the game with 5:15 remaining. However, UK showed fight by clawing back into the lead and held on. Timely free throw shooting by Aaron Bradshaw helped the Cats come out with a 87-83 victory.
UK was led in scoring by Rob Dillingham with 17 points and Wagner with 14 points. For UNC, they were led in scoring by RJ Davis with 27 points and Cormac Ryan with20 points.
