In most cases, scoring 9 runs in one game then 6 more the next game, would be enough for two wins on the road. Cincinnati is in the midst of a 4 game road series at the “friendly Confines” of Wrigley field in Chicago. In game one of the series, the Reds jumped out to a 6-1 lead after 2 1/2 innings. The Reds would hang on for a 6-5 win.
Game two ended up being a massacre despite the Reds scoring 9 runs, they gave up 20 runs and 7 home runs. The Cubs would get 21 hits. Reds starter, Ben Lively was knocked around for 13 runs on 13 hits in 4 brutal innings. Cincinnati scored 9 runs on 13 hits, and lost.
Game three, the Reds jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. They were then outscored by the Cubs 16-3 the rest of the way. The Reds scored 6 runs on 9 hits but committed 4 errors, 3 by Nick Senzel and one by Joey Votto. The Cubs again being efficient with their hits, scored 16 runs on 16 hits and hit 5 more home runs. New Cub Jeimer Candelario was 4-5 in game two and 4-4 in game three. Not a bad start for your new team.
The Reds hope to even the series and slow down the red hot Cubs who so far in the 3 games have scored 41 runs on 45 hits and hitting a mind boggling 13 homer runs. The Reds are clinging to a half game lead on the Brewers for first place and the Cubs are now just 3 1/2 games back.
