It was an emotional day for the Big Blue Nation as one of their own passed away before the Kentucky vs. Tennessee game this afternoon. Joe B. Hall was a special coach, who had to follow in the shadow of Adolph Rupp and still coached the Wildcats to the Championship in 1978. He is one of only three people who won a NCAA Championship as a player and a coach. Hall led the Cats to 297 victories in his 13 seasons at Kentucky. He was a special member of the BBN and will forever be remembered.

What a great way to celebrate the life of Coach Hall than to beat Tennessee 107 to 79 in the SEC rivalry game. The Big Blue Nation filled Rupp Arena and was electric throughout the game and it gave the players a boost of energy. This game seemed to be out of hand for the Volunteers by the half when Kentucky took a 52 to 38 lead into the locker room.

TyTy Washington was the halftime leader for both teams with 14 points. He also had 3 assists and 2 steals. Oscar Tshiebwe led both teams in rebounding at the half with 6, but left the first half early due to foul trouble.

Kentucky’s energy did not decline after halftime as they come out of the locker room firing on all cylinders quickly gaining a 31-point lead with 12 minutes left in the game. The Cats shot an amazing 68% from the field and made 20 of the 21 free-throws. They forced Tennessee to commit 20 turnovers and scored 32 points off those turnovers. Kentucky scored 27 fast break points while only allowing the Volunteers to score one.

It was a team effort by the Wildcats to blowout a top 25 opponent, but TyTy Washington and Sahvir Wheeler led this team with almost perfection. Washington led all scorers with 28 points only missing three of his 13 shots. Wheeler scored 21 points and added 8 assists. Oscar Tshiebwe grabbed 12 rebounds leading both teams.

Kentucky’s effort was the best that we have seen in a long time. Give credit to the players and the fans from bringing the energy on such an emotional game. The Wildcats heads to Texas to take on Texas A&M in an 8:30 tipoff Wednesday and can be watched on the SEC Network.
