Lexington, KY 11-12-21 –
After the disappointing loss to Duke on Tuesday night, the Wildcats took to their home court at Rupp Arena and looked to get their first win of the season against Robert Morris. Even though the Cats lost the game, the Big Blue Nation were excited to see the outstanding play by Oscar Tshibwe who scored 17 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. The 20 rebounds were the most by a debut of any Wildcat before him. The BBN however, wanted to see more of the Kentucky Star Tyty Washington who looked rushed in his college basketball debut.
The Cats were fast out of the gate to start the game and went on a 12 to 2 run while keeping Robert Morris from scoring for 4:48. The Colonials stayed close to the Cats for most of the half, but the Wildcats went on a 12-2 run pushing the lead to 18. Kentucky led by as much as 19, but a push late by Robert Morris ended the half with the Cats up 46-30.
Kentucky started the second half with the same energy as the first and even pressed to cause four early turnovers for the Colonials. The three-point shots started falling in the second half for the Cats as they hit 7 of their first 8 threes. Davion Mintz made his first four three-pointers of the second half pushing Kentucky’s led to 79-48 with 7 minutes to play. The Wildcats finished the half with a flurry of dunks and won the game 100-60.
It was another great performance by Oscar Tshiebwe who ended the game with 14 points and 20 rebounds. The Cats were led in scoring by Kellan Grady with 19 on 4 of 6 from behind the arc. Sahvir Wheeler had 11 assists and 0 turnovers. It was a great scoring night for the Wildcats, as six UK players scored in double figures.
This win is exactly what the players and the BBN needed after the disappointing loss to Duke to open the season. The Wildcats take the court Nov. 16th against Mount Saint Mary’s at 7pm on the SEC Network.
