If you are a UK fan, right about now you are going UH OH. The Cats went to Scott Field in Starksville Mississippi with hope of righting the ship after a demoralizing beat down at #1 Georgia. Things started out good enough as UK jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a Josh Ali 74 yard punt return for a touchdown. All was well in Big Blue Nation as the Cats would end the first quarter with a 7-0 lead. Neither teams offense was doing much in the first quarter.

UK would kick a field goal to stretch their lead to 10-0 at the 12:25 mark in the 2nd quarter. That’s when the wheels came off the Wildcat vehicle. Miss. St would go down the field and score their first touchdown on a 7 yard touchdown run by Jo’quavious Marks. UK would go 3 and out and punt the ball back to Miss. St who wasted little time moving the ball down the field and hitting pay dirt. This time it was Dillion Johnson on a 9 yard scamper to make it 14-10.

UK & Miss. State would trade punts before UK would move down to the Miss. State 35. That’s when Will Levis would toss his first interception of the game to bring the half to a close with Kentucky trailing 14-10.

Miss. St. would take the opening kick of the 2nd half and used a nearly 9 minute drive only to come away with a field goal making the score 17-10 in favor of Miss. St. UK would start their next drive on their own 25 yard line and on the second play of the drive, Chris Rodriguez would get hit for a 4 yard loss and would fumble the ball away to Miss. St. It wouldn’t take the Bulldogs long to score again. it took 3 plays for Dillion Johnson to score on a 1 yard touchdown run making the score 24-10 and Miss. St. wasn’t finished yet.

On Kentucky’s very next play, Will Levis threw another interception, his third of the game and Georgia would quickly capitalize as it took the Bulldogs 4 plays as QB Will Rogers hit Rara Thomas on a 25 yard touchdown strike giving the Bulldogs a 31-10 and 31 unanswered points. UK would end the 3rd quarter in the midst of a long drive.

Kentucky would start the 4th quarter continuing their drive deep in to Bulldog territory. Will Levis would then hit DeMarcus Harris for 17 yard touchdown pass pulling the Cats to within 31-17. Both teams would trade punts before Miss. St.  would run out the clock using a long drive and seal their win.

Mississippi State would make 27 first downs to Kentucky’s 14. The Bulldogs would run up 438 yards in total offense, 344 of that passing the ball. Kentucky could only muster up 216 yards of total offense. 150 passing and 66 yards rushing. For the 2nd game in a row the wildcats rushing game was non existent but that happens when you are down early and have to throw more than you want to. the Bulldogs, who almost never run for much yardage, but managed 94 yards against UK.

Kentucky (6-2), will now go home to face Tennessee (4-4), on November 6th in hopes of getting back on the winning track. The Wildcats have all but lost any hopes of a big game on New Years and along with it, any hopes of winning the East Division of the SEC.
