Kentucky, fresh off a bad loss to #1 ranked Georgia and now a very much needed bye week, will now face a pass happy Mississippi State team that is 8th in the nations averaging 374.7 yards a game. UK on the other end is 182nd in the nation with 196.9 yards per game. Not bad considering Kentucky is 68th in the nation with 189.6 rushing yards per game. Mississippi State is 285th in the country with just 48.7 yards per game.
UK has one of the most balanced attacks around with nearly the same yardage rushing and passing the ball. Their staunch defense will have to slow down Mississippi State’s passing game that QB Will Rogers leads with 18 touchdowns but has thrown 7 picks. UK gives up just 201.7 passing yards per game and allows 119.1 rushing yards per game.
UK is ranked 12th and is a -1.5 point favorite to win at Mississippi State. Of Mississippi State’s 3 losses 2 are at home to Alabama and LSU. In those 2 home losses, Mississippi State still passed for 300 yards against Alabama and 371 yards against LSU. Mississippi State threw an incredible 62 times against LSU completing 47 passes.
Kentucky has to slow down the Mississippi State passing game to win this one. Their defensive line will have to pressure Rogers. Mississippi State QB’s have been sacked 20 times for -131 yards. Rogers has ran the ball 34 time for 69 yards. Nearly all of those attempts were due to being flushed out of the pocket. This all plays into the Wildcats advantage. One because the Cats are good against the run and two, the Cats generally do a good job against opposing Quarterbacks.
Sports View America sees the Cats pulling this out 27-17 to go 7-1.
