Florida Tech grabs a 1-0 victory in the second game of the doubleheader versus No. 8 Rollins
WINTER PARK, Fla. – Florida Tech softball hit the road for the final two games of the Sunshine State Conference series against the No. 8 Rollins College Tars. The Panthers dropped the first game, 9-0, but they gave the Tars their second loss of the year in the 1-0 victory in game two.
Tina Velazquez Rolon (3-2) had another great day as she grabbed a complete game shutout win at the plate and hit the home run that gave Tech the game two win and the only run of the afternoon.
Game one began with each team flexing its defensive prowess; however, that changed in the bottom of the second as the Tars tallied a run. Rollins doubled its lead in the third and in their fourth plate appearance doubled it again as the Panthers fell behind 4-0.
Sadly the fifth inning saw five more Rollins runs cross the plate and this made it 9-0 and ended the game early due to the run roll.
Game two of the day was truly a pitcher’s duel as it was scoreless through six innings. The Crimson & Gray broke the 0-0 deadlock in the top of the seventh thanks to a Velazquez Rolon homer to left field. This 1-0 advantage was enough as Velazquez Rolon and the rest of the Panthers got the final three outs of the game that gave them the win.
Tech’s next competition will be its last road game of the season as the women head to West Palm Beach, Florida, for a single game against Palm Beach Atlantic. The 5 p.m. ET showdown takes place Saturday, May 1, at Simpson Field.
