RICHMOND, Ky. – Following eight consecutive wins, the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team has climbed two spots to No. 12 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top-25®.

EKU (13-2) is off to its best start since the 1946-47 season. Last Thursday’s 113-73 romp over UT Martin gave the Colonels (7-1 OVC) their best conference start since 1964-65.

Eastern tied the OVC single-game record with 20 three-pointers in the win over UT Martin last week.

Freshman Wendell Green Jr. led all players in the game with 25 points. Green Jr. was voted the OVC Freshman of the Week for the third time on Monday.

During its eight-game winning streak, EKU is averaging 89.8 points, 17.3  assists and 11.6 three-pointers-per-game.

The Colonels lead the NCAA in steals-per-game (12.1) and rank second in turnover margin (+7.9) and turnovers forced-per-game (21.3).

EKU is one of only two OVC schools featured in the Top-25. Belmont (16-1, 10-0 OVC) is currently ranked No. 4.

The Colonels are now positioned ahead of the likes of Georgia State (No. 13), Sam Houston State (No. 14), Abilene Christian (No. 15) and St. Mary’s (No. 16).

Unbeaten Gonzaga sits atop the rankings.
